Regina, Saskatchewan Autism Resource Centre “To achieve a meaningful and independent life for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder through education, awareness and programming.” Therapeutic Seasonal Programs
ARC believes that individuals with ASD benefit and thrive when they are provided with structure and consistency. A regression of acquired skills can occur when an individual with ASD takes a break from their regular routine. Not only are the participants able to maintain previously acquired skills during the break, but they are able to develop new skills and abilities.
Parents benefit from the program as well, as they are able to continue employment while their children are out of school. Numerous families and teachers have reported that the transition back to school after participating in an ARC Seasonal Program tends to be a lot smoother than if the individual received no programming during that time.
The Autism Resource Centre (ARC) offers therapeutic seasonal programs to individuals on the ARC membership list. The programs are offered to children, youth, and adults with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) during summer breaks from school and day programs and when available during the Easter, Christmas breaks. Participants are paired with a trained worker who implements their assigned client’s Individual Planned Program (IPP). In addition to several skill-building opportunities, fieldtrip outings are planned each morning and swimming occurs every afternoon in the Seasonal Programs. |
